Calcinosis Cutánea en un infante tras punción única del talón durante el período neonatal: Reporte de un caso

Abstract

Calcinosis cutis is a rare disorder caused by the abnormal deposition of calcium phosphate in the skin. Infant calcification of the heel is a rare clinical variant of dystrophic calcinosis, which is seen in high risk neonates secondary to being subjected to multiple punctures. We present the case of a 19-month-old male infant, with no comorbidities, who presented a keratotic white-yellow nodule located in right heel after single puncture for neonatal screening. Histology revealed the presence of irregular globular deposits of calcium with transepidermal elimination. It is important to know this dermatosis and to establish the differential diagnosis with keratotic nodules of the heel.
