HAIR-AN syndrome. Case report and literature review

Abstract

HAIR–AN syndrome, hyperandrogenism (HA), insulin resistance (IR) and acanthosis nigricans (AN), is a common multisystem disorder in adolescent women, associated with the presence of acne, hirsutism, obesity and/or amenorrhea, which can lead to the development of infertility, diabetes, cardiovascular problems and metabolic disorders.

Early detection, diagnosis, and treatment can help reduce morbidity, improve self-esteem, and have a positive impact on quality of life.

The case of a 31-year-old woman with acanthosis nigricans in almost all body folds, obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, menstrual cycle disorders, and hirsutism not diagnosed since adolescence is reported.
